Built as a makeshift replica of the MSE-6 Series Repair Droid from Star Wars, this lovable droid was created over the period of a week, re-purposing VEX EDR parts for an easy to maintain and reconfigure setup. All exterior panels were made from spare plywood and cut by a laser cutter in the campus Makerspace. Other materials used include PVC tubing and cardboard. Dimensions were pulled from reference information on the droids from the movie, making Stewart, as we have affectionately named him, a full scale replica.
Currently Stewart serves as our official Public Relations Officer, and can be seen at events interacting with guests and making new friends.
If you are a student at the University of Washington Bothell, and looking to work on your own project, we highly recommend checking out the Makerspace in Discovery Hall. This project-oriented space is home to 3D printers, a laser cutter, a drill press, several hand tools, and workshops to help you get started.
